Day 5- Declutter Your Schedule

Overworking has become a part of today’s fast-paced culture. People have started associating over working with hard work. No one has the time for themselves, their family or to do things they really like or love doing. We have lost ourselves in the race to be the best. Are you tired of being tired? Have you ever tried decluttering your schedule?

We don’t have to feel overwhelmed all the time, we don’t have to fill up our schedules where we have no time left for ourselves. If anything this pandemic has taught us is to take things one day at a time, take things slowly. It has shown us the importance of family and our loved ones and made us realize that we don’t have to fill up our void in life with work and prior commitments. Instead, we should spend our time with our loved ones, discover a new hobby or leave our devices behind for the day and have fun. This pandemic has forced us to be confined in the four walls and sit in front of our devices. Despite this, we can still have fun if we take it slow.


It is necessary for us to declutter our schedule and remove unnecessary tasks that can be filled with some fun and productive ones. Here are some tips to help you declutter your schedule and live your desired life –

  • Take a social media detox – You will be surprised to see how much time you are left with once you eliminate unnecessary social media use from your schedule. Social media has taken over our lives, so take a day or two off or you can even start by reducing its use. This can do wonders for your mental health and it can help you declutter your life.
  • Acknowledge and respect that you can’t do everything – We are so used to pushing our boundaries and trying to achieve everything but what we don’t realize is that we can only do so much. Setting boundaries is very important. In order to declutter our schedule, we have to make decisions to eliminate certain things. It’s surely going to be difficult because we are surrounded by unlimited options but we have limited resources. We can’t do it all and acceptance of that will be a step in the right direction to declutter our life.
  • Determine your priorities and see what’s important to you – Determining your priorities will help you declutter your schedule. Getting your priorities out of your head and onto a piece of paper helps a lot. You will get a better image of what is really important and what you can do without. Remember this is about clarifying what matters to you the most and not anyone else.
  • Start saying NO – Once you experience the joy of saying NO, there’s no going back. It’s not enough to know the things that you should do but you should also know what things you can say NO to. Our time is limited and so are our resources. We will have to make choices of how we spend our time, so saying NO is inevitable. It’s good to make it a part of our routine and be comfortable with it.
  • Less means time – Decluttering and being minimalist is the key to living a hassle-free life. But where to start decluttering is the biggest challenge. We are so used to filling our emptiness with materialistic stuff that we forget what really matters. Remember the less you own, the less time you will spend cleaning, caring and worrying about it.
  • Find your motivation – If you follow the above steps to declutter your schedule, you’ll have time to yourself. Use this time to introspect and see what motivates you, see what makes you feel human, what tugs your heart. It may be listening to music, blogging, painting, dancing, reading your favorite book, or trying a new hobby. Use this extra time to explore yourself, find yourself. See what your church is, what you enjoy doing most.

Life is too short to spend our days in frustration. If anything this pandemic has taught us, is to have fun in the little joys of life. So, let’s make a genuine effort to declutter our schedule.
